Turn off the propane gas supply and disconnect it from the stove when the grill cools off. Wipe away all the ash particles on the grill grates with a grill brush. You can use scrambled pieces of aluminum foil to brush off the burned residues on the grill if you do not have a steel grill brush.

Cleaning your grill’s exterior is equally important to keep it in the best condition for later use.  Soapy water is the best cleaning solution that you can use to clean your grill’s exterior. It is safe and won’t corrode the surface of your grill.

To create your cleaning solution, pour some detergent or mild dishwashing soap in a basin of water. Wash the exterior of your grill using the mixture and wipe it dry using a rag soaked in clean water. All the soap residue will be removed by this and the grill will seem sparkling clean.

To ensure that there is no moisture on the surface of the grill, let the grill to dry in the sun for some time. If there is moisture, it can cause corrosion. So make sure that your grill is completely dry after washing.

But you have to learn some things before you set out for camping with your barbecue grill. If you are using a charcoal grill, you must know clearly how to use it. First Steps of Use

The very first thing you should do is to prepare your kettle for preheating. You have to check that the dampers which are present at the bottom of the kettle and those which are present in the lid of the kettle are open totally before doing this. Then remove the top cooking grate and hung off the handle of the kettle. The next step is to fill the chimney starter. Fill it halfway using the charcoal. Now, take the bottom grate or the charcoal grate and then place the 2 light cubes of charcoal right beneath the chimney starter to ultimately light it up. You have to wait until the cubes of charcoal have turned into complete ash. It will take about 10 to 15 minutes.

If you have followed all these instructions, it is now time to preheat your kettle. Dump the ash of the charcoal on the grate of charcoal. You can use a grill mitt to dump out the ash evenly. Put all of the lit charcoal in a particular zoned out place of the grill to set up the grill in a great and well-prepared way. This will give you a safe zone or merely a dedicated place where you can perform some indirect grilling on the BBQ.

Your charcoal grate is now all set to use. If you have put the cooking grate on the grill of charcoal grate on the BBQ, cover the top of kettle using the lid. Make sure that the lid vent of the kettle is totally open. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes to ensure that the kettle is properly preheated. You can prepare all the other things that you might need to proceed on with while the kettle is preheating. You can prepare your steaks side by side. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and put them out in order to bring its temperature down to the room temperature to prepare the steaks for barbecuing. You can sprinkle olive oil on the steaks to prepare it for cooking when their temperature matches with that of the room. Now add seasoning to the steak to add to the flavour. You can season it with all those things that you like be it salt, pepper or garlic or all of them together.

Get the Grill Ready

After your grill is ready and preheated, and your steaks are ready for barbecuing, you can start grilling. Use the hook on the kettle’s lid to hang off the bowl. Now, put the already prepared steaks on the cooking grate. After placing the steaks rightly, shut the lid of the kettle and wait for about 3 to 4 minutes and remove the lid and and hang it from the bowl. Use the tongs and other instruments for this. Now, flip the sides of the steaks again in the region where you placed charcoal on the grill.Then cover the lid of the kettle and let it cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Now you can open the lid and check if the steaks are all ready to be consumed.

NFPA has the reports of accidents that are caused by grilling. Every year, so many accidents occur due to grilling and many patients are taken to emergency rooms. If a fire starts from the grill, things close to the grill catches fire easily which can even cause an explosion. In most of the reported grill accidents, leaks or breaks are the major causes. It is a fact that gas grills are more prone to accidents than charcoal grills. So more care has to be taken while using propane gas grills.

Here are certain Do’s and Don’ts you can follow when you are using a propane gas grill. This will help you to avoid accidents.

Do’s

  1. It is always good to use the grill outside in a well-ventilated area.  The instruction in the manual has to be followed strictly. All the things such as the manual, written materials, etc., from the manufacturer, has to be kept in a safe, accessible place.
  2. The grill burner controls have to be turned off always and the cylinder valve has to be kept fully closed when not in use.
  3. After use, check whether the gas grill is shut off and completely cooled before covering it.
  4. The cylinders have to be used or stored in an upright, vertical position. They have to be stored outdoors away from sources of ignition.
  5. Check for dents, rust, damage, or leaks when the cylinder is refilled.
  6. Take the cylinder home immediately after filling. Make sure to keep the vehicle ventilated with the cylinder valve closed and plugged or capped while transporting. The disconnected hose-end fittings and burner air intakes have to be covered with small plastic bags when the Propane Grill is not in use. You can also use protective fitting caps from the propane gas retailer to keep out dirt, insects, and moisture.
  7. Test the gas fittings for leaks before lighting the propane gas grill burner.

Don’ts

  1. Avoid bringing cylinders indoors or into an enclosed space such as a garage.
  2. Avoid smoking while handling the propane gas cylinder
  3. The cylinder must not be left in a vehicle
  4. Avoid using matches or lighters while checking for leaks.
  5. Keep the cylinder and the Propane Grill away from the reach of children
  6. The cylinder must not be used, stored, or transported to where it could be exposed to high temperatures.

Here are some safety tips that you can use while handling a propane gas grill.

  1. All the grills, whether propane or charcoal, must be used only outdoors.
  2. Make sure to keep the grill away from the home, deck railings and out from the eaves and over hangings.
  3. The Propane Grill has to be kept at least three feet away from the kids and pets
  4. Remove the grease or fat buildup from the grills and the tray below the grill. Always keep it clean.
  5. Your Propane Grill must not be left unattended
  6. Before lighting the grill, make sure that the gas grill lid is open
